Women's Health

At Boston Medical Center, we provide specialized services in dealing with women's health issues. Dr. Kim was one of the first to offer uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) in the New England Region. Since then, he has treated more than 1,200 patients with symptomatic uterine fibroids. We are 100 percent committed to meeting our patient's expectation and needs through our widely recognized professional care and compassion.

Fibroids, also known as leiomyomas, myomas, or fibromas are benign growths in the uterine wall composed of smooth muscle and fibrous cells. Fibroids are the most common growths arising from the female pelvis, occurring in at least 20 to 40 percent of women. Approximately half of the women with fibroids develop symptoms, most commonly between the age of 30 to 50 years. At least one-third of the estimated 600,000 hysterectomies performed each year in the United States are done for fibroid disease, at an estimated cost of $2 to 4 billion. Hysterectomy is the most frequently performed major surgical procedure in the United States.

With innovative minimally techniques we have achieved excellent technical success (more than 99 percent) as well as clinical success (more than 95 percent) with a low complication rate (less than 1 percent). The outcomes of our procedures have compared favorably to others, by allowing patients the opportunity to keep their uterus and not have to undergo major surgery.

In addition to providing care for patient with uterine fibroids, we also have experience in treating unsightly varicose veins and pelvic congestion syndrome.
